Literature Text

No green grass on either side,
The land is hard, parched and dried,
On the line wobbling to and fro,
With only one direction left to go,
Ahead no green, no ending light,
Still onward alone stumbling in fright.

Once held by a steady hand,
Led patiently through luscious land,
Satisfied beyond indulgence,
Living in gleeful abundance,
Then the sky began to thunder,
The scavengers began to plunder.

Instead of a field of peace,
In war all pleasures halt and cease,
Thunder deafens, lightening blinds,
The chaos of their addled minds,
Scorching, maiming and tormenting,
Leaving innocents lamenting.

The train of souls plodding onward,
Trudging, stumbling, always forward,
What resilience in a human soul,
To continue living without the whole,
Some fall along the way,
Others cling for one more day.

Will it take an angelic band,
The intervention of a heavenly hand?
Has not humanity already been blessed,
And yet continues to fail each test?
Would one upon the ragged line brave to turn,
To see the hallow faces behind and learn?

Learn that hatred is untrue,
Realize that man can start anew,
Our tears combined fall on dry soil,
Our hands in unison can toil,
Land nurtured by tears and sweat,
Wondrous rewards it will beget.

No more onward into darkness,
No need for an internal fortress,
The walls of hatred fall to rubble,
Broken souls no longer troubled,
Let’s stop before it is too late,
Death and war need not be fate.
Yep the news!
