Noontime

Everyday I wait by the phone as noontime approaches
Watch hopefully as the clock tics the hour and then two
Each day I hope today will be the day
The phone will announce that I am not forgotten.

Once you were faithful and came daily to my rescue
Noon was the hour on which my hopes survived and clung
Two o'clock and hope raises the white flag of acceptance
Today I surrender and fight for love again tomorrow.

They say hope springs eternal
Mine will not fade or flee
It only slumbers until noon tomorrow
Perhaps that will be the day

When noon arrives, my hope will once again awaken
My love is truly eternal, only you has noontime forsaken.
